Echo Bear Cat donates equipment to Camp Meriwether

Brian Bress and Dan Sumner of Golden Eagle Distributing Corporation presented Resident Rangers, Steve Parks and Gary Cuppy with the new LS33340T log splitter. Bress and Sumner spent a day at Camp Meriwether, training the Resident Rangers on proper use and maintenance of the log splitter.

Camp Meriwether will use the log splitter to cut wood for Scout campfires and ceremonies; some of the wood will also be sold to campers to raise money for future needs at the camp. With the new log splitter, the camp will be able to take storm-damaged trees from the state and create firewood. Before the damaged trees would be taken to a refuse dumpsite, but with the use of the log splitter, these trees will no longer be wasted.

Opened in 1926, Camp Meriwether is located on the Oregon coast 75 miles southeast of Portland and encompasses more than 800 acres of land by the Pacific Ocean. Camp Meriwether shares the land with Camp Clark; between the two campsites, more than 5,000 Cub and Boy Scouts visit every year.
