Vermeer Corporation to Build New Manufacturing Facility in Iowa
Vermeer Corporation has announced the acquisition of 186 acres of land and plans to build a new 300,000-square-foot manufacturing facility in the Bondurant area of the Des Moines metro.
The facility is expected to initially support more than 300 jobs tied to the manufacturing and support of Vermeer industrial parts and equipment.
The investment follows continued growth for the company, which officials say is being driven by increased equipment demand, product innovation, expanded field support and strengthening global brand recognition.
“I’m incredibly proud of this business my grandfather, Gary Vermeer, began 78 years ago and the team doing the work to equip Vermeer customers around the world. While Pella will always be home to our headquarters, the need for Vermeer equipment has continued to grow and the innovation coming from Vermeer requires continued investment both in Pella and beyond. After announcing the launch of our Vermeer Des Moines team just three years ago, we’re excited to further our commitment to our customers, our team, the greater Des Moines metro and the state of Iowa through this investment,” said Jason Andringa, President and CEO and third generation family member.
Vermeer launched its Des Moines operations in spring 2023. The current team of 143 employees operates out of 108,000 square feet and produces parts and equipment used by customers working in industries that support food production, natural resource management and infrastructure development.
Company officials said the new facility will feature advanced manufacturing technologies, including specialized tooling, modern production practices and a patented air circulation system designed to support high-performance manufacturing operations.
The current Des Moines team manufactures cutting-edge products, which are critical wearable components used during job-site operations on Vermeer equipment. The new facility will serve as a center of excellence for aftermarket components supporting the company’s cutting-edge product business.
The site will also include full-spectrum manufacturing capabilities including machining, welding, paint and assembly. Officials said the expanded capabilities will allow the facility to support growing demand and produce equipment from Vermeer’s utility, tree care and landscape product lines.
“The Des Moines area has proven, in a short amount of time, to be a great place to build out our team and get important work done. We strive to be a top employer in the region, are committed to best-in-class manufacturing and believe this growth only helps demonstrate that. We’re proud to call Iowa home and we’re proud to build our team and our equipment right here in the heart of the Midwest,” said Mindi Vanden Bosch, Vice President of Operations and third generation family member.
The new facility announcement follows a series of growth investments by the company since 2016. Over the past three years, Vermeer has expanded operations across multiple locations, including a 135,000-square-foot expansion at Vermeer MV Solutions in Greenville, opening a 312,000-square-foot global parts distribution center in Pella, leasing and developing the current 108,000-square-foot Des Moines facility and updating 127,000 square feet of manufacturing space in Goes.
The company also acquired significant ownership in a manufacturer located in Queensland.
Vermeer officials said the project was developed in collaboration with the City of Bondurant, the Iowa Economic Development Authority and the Greater Des Moines Partnership, which supported the project through regional economic development efforts.
