2021-2022 NALP Board of Directors announced

NALP Board of Directors

The National Association of Landscape Professionals (NALP) introduced its new Board of Directors. Their term begins in October. The talented group at the helm of the association is as follows:


Bob Grover

Bob Grover, president of Pacific Landscape Management, is truly an industry veteran, starting with his first job at a local nursery as a sophomore in high school, he has only ever working within the industry. Grover graduated from Oregon State University and worked for 15 years at Northwest Landscape Industries and then three years with TruGreen LandCare. He started Pacific Landscape Management in 2001. In 17 years, Pacific has grown to manage more than 500 commercial properties with a staff of 200 and is the Portland market leader in commercial landscape management. Grover has participated in ALCA and now NALP for more than 30 years and he is a firm believer in the value of NALP membership and involvement.


Mike Bogan

Mike Bogan is the CEO of LandCare, one of the industry’s largest national landscape maintenance companies. A graduate of Mississippi State University with a Bachelor of Landscape Architecture, Bogan began his career in the design/build division of Davis Landscape Contractors in their MD/DC/VA office. He moved to The Brickman Group a short time later and helped pioneer their branch model while the company’s focus changed from design/build to maintenance. During his 23 years with Brickman, he saw their revenue increase from $40M to $850M, creating a network of branches across the United States. He was active in developing new markets, engaged in all aspects of mergers and acquisitions, led corporate functions for marketing and employee development, and served Brickman as their executive vice president during his last seven years.


Brandon Sheppard

Brandon Sheppard is a member of the Weed Man Sub-Franchisor team and operates the Weed Man franchises in Winchester, Virginia; Annapolis, Maryland; Bethesda, Maryland; Rockville-Gaithersburg, Maryland; and Frederick, Maryland. His journey with Weed Man began in 2000 as part of the Canada-founded company’s brand launch into the American market. Sheppard joined the Weed Man team full time in 2004 after receiving his Juris Doctorate from the West Virginia University College of Law when his family’s operations opened their first physical offices.

Shayne Newman


Experienced in the trade since 1987, Shayne Newman founded YardApes, Inc. in 1990 and holds the title of president. He hails from Telluride, Colorado, but has lived in New Milford for the past 27 years. Newman received a B.S. in finance from the University of Connecticut, is a Landscape Industry Certified Technician, Landscape Industry Certified Manager, holds a Connecticut Supervisory Pesticide License, and is a Certified Landscape Designer. The YardScapes Landscape Professionals team takes great pride in being one of only thirteen Landscape Industry Accredited Companies in the United States and Connecticut’s only Landscape Industry Accredited Company.


Bruce Allentuck

Bruce Allentuck is the current president of Allentuck Landscaping Co. (1986–present) as well as the CEO of RightPlantz (2017–present). Allentuck received his B.S. Degree in Landscape Horticulture, N.C. State (1987) before starting his business. He has held leadership positions within NALP as chairman of NALP Renewal & Remembrance (2013-2105); chairman NALP Awards Committee; and chairman NALP Landscape Maintenance Specialty Group. He also volunteers locally at the Clarksburg Chamber of Commerce.

Pam Dooley

Dooley is the owner of Plants Creative Landscapes. Her company takes a thoughtful, creative approach to designing, building and maintaining unique, custom-tailored spaces. Dooley has worked in the landscape industry since she was 15, and her collegiate volleyball teammates nicknamed her “Plants.” She worked as a nursery manager and studied horticulture at the University of George before founding Plants Creative in 2005. She has since grown the business from a single truck and a lawn mower to a team of 50 who provide award-winning landscape services in the Atlanta region.

Maurice Dowell

Maurice Dowell founded Dowco Enterprises Inc., in 1981 as a part-time job while working for Sears Roebuck. That part-time position has turned into a thriving landscape maintenance firm where Maurice mentors a diverse cultural and ethnic team of professionals. Dowco is a full-service landscape management company now that caters to the high-end residential customers in St. Louis area. In prior iterations of NALP, Dowell has chaired the Awards and Membership committees. He is a board member of his state association, MoGia; he is Landscape Industry Certified and has been a Trailblazer since 2007.

Lisa Fiore

Lisa Fiore is co-founder and CEO of LandscapeHub, a B2B marketplace for plants and landscape supplies. On one side of the marketplace, LandscapeHub provides suppliers (i.e., nurseries, distributors, dealers, manufacturers, and even brokers) with a digital sales channel to accommodate the specific needs of the commercial buyers in the green industry. For the commercial buyers (i.e., landscape contractors, garden centers, municipalities, golf courses, zoos, etc.), they provide estimating, procurement and fulfillment tools designed to reduce the time it takes to source and order products for jobs. Buyers can search and order plants and landscape materials from their local market and from across the U.S.

Paul Fraynd

Paul Fraynd is the CEO of Sun Valley Landscaping which has 16 full-time employees and up to 35 season full-time staff in the field. Paul started his first business in 2002 while still a freshman in college. The business has grown and changed but his love and passion for the industry remains the same. Fraynd has served in several local and national volunteer opportunities in the industry, serving on local Omaha Grounds Maintenance Association Board and currently serving on NALP’s Public Affairs Advisory Council along with the board of the NALP-PAC.

Ivan Giraldo

With more than 30 years in the industry, Ivan Giraldo started his commercial experience at Clean Cut in Austin, Texas and continued developing in the industry when Clean Cut merged with TruGreen, where he became branch manager with one of the more successful branches of TruGreen nationwide. 15 years ago, Giraldo co-founded Clean Scapes with Rex Gore, which is headquartered in Austin, but has branches in San Antonio and Dallas as well. Ivan is a past board member and director of the NHLA, board member of Round Rock Area Serving Center, and a member of the Greater Austin Hispanic Chamber of Commerce.

Clarie Goldman

Claire Goldman co-owns R&R Landscaping with her husband, Charlie. R&R Landscaping is a design/build company in Auburn, AL specializing in custom residential design and installation. Claire cultivated a love for the outdoors and plants as a child following her grandma around the yard. Goldman found her calling as a landscape designer. As R&R has grown, her role has shifted to leading and coaching their team while producing a smaller portion of sales and design work. Goldman graduated with a B.S. in Horticulture from Auburn University in 2008 and was named the 2020 Woman Entrepreneur of the Year by the National Association of Landscape Professionals. She is encouraged by the direction and momentum of the landscape industry and hopes to be a catalyst for growth and change as the industry seeks innovative ways to improve culture, solve problems, and increase opportunities.

John Guth

John Guth is the vice president of operations for Green Lawn Fertilizing, the leading privately owned lawn care, tree care and pest control company operating in PA, NJ and DE. He has been with the company since 2018 and has been in the industry for more than 20 years. Guth earned his MBA from American InterContinental University, is a graduate of Cornell University’s Leadership Academy and is Landscape Industry Certified. Guth has served as a member on the Finance Committee, Lawn Care Communications Committee and was the chair of the Industry Marketing Council for the National Association of Landscape Professionals. He also serves on the LCCTC Occupational Advisory Committee for their Landscape Department.

Phil Key

Phil Key currently serves as the president of Ruppert Landscape and his primary focus is to make sure that the company’s visions and values are integrated into its daily operation. He does this by working closely with the management team on its planning, personnel development, and systems control processes. Key has been working for the Ruppert organization for over 18 years and has over 27 years in the industry. He holds a bachelor’s degree in business from Western Maryland (now McDaniel) College and recently graduated from Harvard Business School’s Owner/President Management (OPM) program.

Roscoe Klausing

Roscoe Klausing is the founder and owner of the Klausing Group. He has been involved in the landscape industry since 1992, serving and leading numerous industry committees and advisory boards in the assocation. He became central Kentucky’s first landscape industry certified professional in 2000 and is the youngest winner of Commerce Lexington’s Small Business of the Year Award. Also, in 2014, Klausing was named an NALP Trailblazer.

William MacMurdo

William MacMurdo is the head of U.S. Turf & Ornamentals for Bayer CropScience, LP. He has been with Bayer for 26 years and has extensive international experience having been the business head of Canada, the global market manager based in Lyon, France, and also a general manager, based in Australia and New Zealand. But if you ask MacMurdo “who he is,” he’ll say he’s really just a “farm kid from Canada.” He is someone who has long had a passion for the green industry.

Frank Mariani

Frank Mariani is the CEO of Mariani Landscape, a high-end, award winning, residential landscape design and maintenance firm located in Lake Bluff, Illinois, which was founded by his father Vito in 1958. Frank also owns Mariani Nursery, a 558+ acre wholesale nursery located on the Illinois-Wisconsin border, is a partner in Hampshire Farms, a 50 acre perennial farm located in Hampshire, Illinois, which produces quart and gallon finished perennial, and owns a 120-acre container/propagation facility in Garden Prairie, Illinois, that produces high-quality container plants.

Joe Munie

Joe Munie, president and CEO of Munie Greencare Professionals, founded the company in 1980 as a chemical lawn care company. Since then, Munie has evolved into 70% commercial maintenance, 20% landscape construction, and 10% plant health care. The company operates out of 9 states and has recently placed on Lawn & Landscape’s Top 100 Grounds Maintenance Companies in North America list. He is currently a member of Southern Illinois Builder’s Association, NALP, Turfgrass Producers International, Gateway chapter of Sport Turf Manager Association. He also serves as an active volunteer of Holy Trinity Catholic Church.

Tim Portland

Tim Portland is the chairman and CEO of Yellowstone Landscape, which he joined in 2012. He previously was CEO of USI Building Solutions, and spent 10 years at Scotts Miracle-Gro, including leadership of the Global Professional Division, Scotts LawnService Division, and Ortho/Roundup Pesticides Division. Portland has been an active member of the Public Affairs Advisory Council over the past 3 years, and is most actively involved in NALP’s H-2B efforts, including leading NALP’s H-2B Advisory committee.

Chris Senske

Chris Senske is president and CEO of Senske Services, a lawn care, tree care, pest control and landscape services firm located in Northwestern US. He has worked full time in the family business since 1974 after graduating from University of Washington with a B.S. in chemistry and took over ownership of the company in 1980. Senske has served on multiple industry, state and local government advisory boards and committees most notably the White House Conference on Small Business.
