Walker Manufacturing closes for 6 weeks

Walker Manufacturing’s 148 employees began their first week of a six-week shutdown on Monday, an unpaid vacation that will last three weeks longer than usual.


When workers return on Aug. 17, they’ll likely face an uncertain future.


An employee said they were told before the shutdown the plant may face more layoffs when they return, but Ken Weaver, the plant’s human resources manager, said no decisions have been made yet on future layoffs.
