Briggs & Stratton Commercial Power names new director of utility and commercial engineering

Mark EmmerBriggs & Stratton recently announced that the new director of utility and commercial engineering for its Commercial Power division will be Mark Emmer. Furthering the focus, experience and commitment to commercial power, Emmer is poised to continue connecting the voice of the customer with the engineering process.

“Mark Emmer will continue to lead an experienced group of engineers toward creating power solutions for our OEM customers,” said Joe Wright, senior vice president of Briggs & Stratton Engine Power Products Group. “And as more and more OEMs will likely outsource functions such as R&D and application engineering, Mark and his team are well-positioned to assist our OEM partners.”

Emmer has spent nearly 22 years with Briggs & Stratton in various engine divisions, including 12 years as the engineering manager of the small engine division, six years as product design engineer, and initially as a manufacturing engineer. Emmer is a graduate of Milwaukee School of Engineering with an emphasis on electrical engineering, and he has received his MBA from Keller Graduate School of Management. Leading a dedicated engineering staff, Emmer will further develop Briggs & Stratton’s commitment to directly engage customers.

“Product development is led by working directly with our customers and OEMs,” said Emmer. “By working with OEMs in our Engine Application Center (EAC), we make sure each engine specifically matches the application, each application is powered correctly, and we thoroughly and completely understand the performance expected.”

As a result of listening to the customer, Emmer’s staff recently introduced a new low-rpm option available on Vanguard BIG BLOCK V-Twins which significantly increases fuel efficiency while reducing noise and vibration. Engine speed is reduced from 3,600 rpm to 3,200 rpm, but the productivity of the machine remains constant.

Additionally, Vanguard engineers, working in conjunction with mud boat manufacturers, have developed a Marine Package, which satisfies the rigorous demands this unique application places on engine performance. Marine Package components integrated into the Vanguard BIG BLOCK engines include: Digital CDI Ignition, Lighter Flywheel, Stainless Steel Muffler, High-capacity Fuel Pump and 20/50 Amp Alternator System.

Furthermore, Vanguard BIG BLOCK V-Twin air-cooled engines continue to remain a trusted choice of manufacturers. With more than 50,000 Briggs & Stratton Commercial Power Vanguard BIG BLOCK engines in the field every day, they continue to satisfy the customers need for increased power combined with reduced weight, cost and maintenance.
