EETC introduces HireReady technician assessment

The Equipment & Engine Training Council (EETC) has introduced HireReady, a pre-employment assessment designed to help employers evaluate candidates’ technical knowledge before hiring technicians to service and repair engines and equipment.

The assessment is intended for power equipment dealers, landscape maintenance companies with in-house technicians and other employers that hire equipment service technicians.

The assessment provides an additional measure of a candidate’s technical knowledge to consider alongside work experience, references and interviews. It is intended to help employers identify potential knowledge gaps before making a hiring decision.

“Over the years, EETC has developed an extensive pool of technical information and industry knowledge through our certification and education programs,” said Bruce Tallman, executive director of the Equipment & Engine Training Council. “HireReady puts that information to work for employers in a new way. The assessment gives them another tool to evaluate a prospective technician’s technical knowledge before making the investment in hiring that individual. Our goal is to help employers hire with confidence.”

EETC also offers training resources and certification programs for technician development. Companies that become EETC members can provide access to those resources for new and existing employees.

EETC certification exams cover four-stroke engines, two-stroke engines, compact diesel engines, electrical systems, driveline systems, mechanical systems, mobile generators and reel technology.

“Employers don’t just need help finding technicians — they need a way to build and retain a more capable technical workforce,” Tallman said. “HireReady helps with the first decision, and EETC’s education and certification programs can help employers continue developing those technicians throughout their careers.”
