Deere, others, show robots and autonomy at CES 2025

At CES 2025, John Deere debuted its new Merlin mower, a battery-powered mower with a 60-inch rear-discharge deck that can operate autonomously or manually as a stand on with an operator. It’s powered by a 21.4 kWh battery that Deere claims can enable the mower to operate for up to 10 hours. It uses four pairs of stereo cameras to see in 360 degrees.

“Our agriculture, construction, and commercial landscaping customers all have work that must get done at certain times of the day and year, yet there is not enough available and skilled labor to do the work,” Jahmy Hindman, John Deere’s chief technology officer, said in a statement. “Autonomy can help address this challenge.”

ECOVACS

ECOVACS, maker of robot vacuums, showed its new Goat series of robotic lawn care products for the American market. ECOVACS mowers are reportedly strong sellers in Europe. The Goat family has been extended with the all-new A Family and O Family models,

The A3000 LiDAR is the flagship of the 2025 Goat A family. Its navigation technology combines satellite-based RTK positioning, front-facing LiDAR, and camera vision to deliver precision mowing. It features dual LiDAR, 360° top-mounted scanning and 3D laser imaging for mapping accuracy, mowing efficiency and obstacle avoidance.

The Goat O Family is designed for smaller, more complex lawns. These mowers offer increased maneuverability for smaller lawns that are not perfect squares or rectangles.

Lymow

Lymow introduced the Lymow One, a unique robotic mower using two high-speed spinning mulching blades and a centrifugal fan integrated into the deck for optimal clipping discharge. It’s powered by an intelligent brushless motor with a peak output of 1200W, driving the mulching blades to spin at 6000 RPM.

The front deck of the Lymow One offers an adjustable cutting height from 1.2 to 4 inches. The mowing deck follows the ground with its omniwheels, guaranteeing even cuts on uneven terrain. Lymow One’s tracked tread propulsion is designed to handle rough terrain, clear obstacles up to 2 inches in height, and tackle slopes with a 45° (100%) gradient with ease—even climbing stairs and performing reliably in wet weather and slippery conditions.

Lymow One’s advanced navigation technology combines Real-Time Kinematic (RTK) satellite positioning and Visual Simultaneous Localization and Mapping (VSLAM) technologies to eliminate the need for boundary wires, allowing for map editing of multiple zones and no-go areas. Its stereo camera also enables the Lymow One to perceive its surroundings and avoid obstacles for uninterrupted mowing.

Lymow One is available for purchase on Kickstarter.

Mammotion

Mammotion announced mini versions of the Luba and Yuka robot mowers. The Yuka mini weighs only 22 lbs. and is built for small yards of up to 0.25 acres. The Luba mini has an 8-inch cutting width and is designed to maintain up to a third of an acre. Both mowers are sold online.
