Caterpillar changes DEI policies

Caterpillar sent a memo to employees recently, according to several online news reports, citing changes to the company’s policies around promotion of diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) practices.

The memo to staff said, in part: “All training, both formal and informal, must be focused on our business and designed to foster high performance and execution of our enterprise strategy.”

Caterpillar’s human resources policy changes appear to be a result of pressure, in part, from anti-woke provocateur Robby Starbuck. On his X.com feed (better known as Twitter), @RobbyStarbuck said that he had warned Caterpillar Inc executives that he “was planning to expose their woke policies.” Starbuck claims credit also for driving personnel policy changes at Tractor Supply, John Deere, Harley Davidson, Polaris, Lowe’s, Stanley Black & Decker and other companies.

Caterpillar retains a page on its corporate website dedicated to “diversity and inclusion,” on which the company writes, “We are committed to continually working to ensure our workplace is diverse and representative of the many customers we serve around the globe and that each person is respected, seen, heard and valued.”
