Stihl plants trees and raises money for Oregon state parks

Stihl Inc., creator and owner of the premier lumberjack sports event, the Stihl Timbersports presented by Carhartt, announced June 28 that it is launching a promotion throughout the state of Oregon where it will donate $5 for the sale of every piece of serialized Stihl equipment, up to $20,000, to the Oregon Parks and Recreation Department. The promotion, which runs through July, is Stihl’s way of showing appreciation to the host state of the 25th anniversary Stihl Timbersports Series at the Oregon State Fair Aug. 27-29.

“We’re honored to team up with America’s State Parks and Oregon Parks and Recreation to further support and preserve our nation’s forests, parks and recreational areas,” said Roger Phelps, promotional communications manager, Stihl Inc. “As a long-term proponent of responsible forest management, this opportunity allows Stihl to extend our many environmental stewardship efforts.”

The money raised during the promotion will provide the Oregon Parks and Recreation funding for beautification projects, and support initiatives such as the Let’s Go Camping program, providing extra gear, hands-on nature lessons and hiking to help America’s youth re-discover the great outdoors. Later this year, Stihl will work with Oregon State Parks to plant 250 trees in Oregon parks during the peak tree-planting season.

“We are very thankful for Stihl’s support,” said Tim Wood, director of the Oregon Parks and Recreation Department. “It is very exciting to get to host this special 25th anniversary event with the world’s best lumberjacks and the ESPN2 cameras kicking off opening weekend of the Oregon State Fair.”

The Stihl Timbersports Series’ quarterfinals, semifinals, U.S. Championship and Collegiate Championship will take place during the fair’s opening weekend. The Series features the world’s best lumberjacks and jills in the ultimate tests of strength, endurance, stamina, tool skill and agility. Thirty-two chopper/sawyers, six collegiate competitors, eight boom runners and eight speed climbers will chop, saw, climb, and run their way in to the record books, and celebrate the Stihl Timbersports Series tradition during its silver anniversary festivities in front of ESPN2 cameras.

As a leader in the outdoor power equipment industry, Stihl leads by example in sustainability and continues to invest in innovative technologies, programs and partnerships as part of its ongoing commitment to socially responsible environmental stewardship. Stihl teams with numerous agencies and organizations that encourage the responsible use of natural resources, promote sustainable growth woodlands, and support the continuing education of future farmers and agribusiness professionals. Stihl supports the work of the Tree Research and Education Endowment Fund (TREE Fund), International Society of Arboriculture (ISA), Tree Care Industry Association (TCIA), National FFA, Professional Landcare Network (PLANET), American Tree Farm System (ATFS), and National Association of State Park Directors (NASPD).
