WORX earns environmental award
WORX, a division of Positec Group, was recently presented a Platinum Low Carbon Award for sustainable manufacturing by the World Wildlife Fund (WWF). The award acknowledges the WORX manufacturing facility in China for its low carbon footprint.
WORX, an electric outdoor power equipment manufacturer, is committed to improving the environment by designing and manufacturing consumer products that reduce the carbon footprint to the environment. At its manufacturing facility, the company cuts greenhouse gas emissions throughout its supply chain and sets energy efficiency standards.
“It’s an honor to be recognized by the World Wildlife Fund organization,” said Tom Duncan, president of Positec Group. “We strive to do our part in our commitment to the environment, and we encourage other manufacturers to direct their support to this area as well.”
WORX is well aware of the urgent need to reduce worldwide carbon emissions and its role in contributing toward sustainable manufacturing and a healthy environment. In 2011, the world population reached 7 billion people and is predicted to peak at 9.3 billion by 2050. According to the WWF, in 2008 the world population used the equivalent of 1.5 planets to support its activities. If the demands on the planet continue to increase at the same rate, by the mid-2030s, we would need the equivalent of two planets to maintain our resource-hungry lifestyles.
WWF’s Corporate Membership Program aims to reduce carbon emissions generated by manufacturing facilities in China and to develop environmental social governance in the region with the highest manufacturing density in the world. China’s status as “the factory of the world” adds greater importance to the WWF program on a global scale.
