New Simplicity Contender targets prosumer market

Many homeowners have a desire to mow with commercial-quality equipment, particularly homeowners with large lawns. To answer that need, the new Simplicity Contender zero-turn mower targets the “prosumer” market with its professional-grade features and a price point starting at $5,099.

Homeowners looking for a commercial-quality zero-turn mower can select from two models featuring a 25-gross-hp. Briggs & Stratton Commercial Turf Series V-twin engine; a high-performance Hydro-Gear ZT-3100 transmission; a rugged, welded steel frame; and a 52- or 61-inch fabricated mower deck with limited lifetime warranty. Both models feature speeds up to 8 mph, a 5.5-gallon fuel tank, 20-inch drive tires and a roll-over protection system (ROPS).

“The Contender is built in our Munnsville, N.Y., facility, a factory focused on producing zero-turn mowers,” said Ryan Fredrickson, product manager. “We have years of experience building premium-quality commercial mowers under our Ferris brand name, and we’ve borrowed from that experience to bring this product line to market at incredibly attractive ‘prosumer’ price points.”
