U.S. power lawn and garden equipment sales in the residential market to approach $8 billion in 2022

Demand for power lawn and garden equipment among residential users is forecast to rise 2.9% annually to $7.9 billion in 2022, slightly slower than growth among commercial users. An increase in the single-family housing stock will expand the demand base for power lawn and garden equipment. These and other trends are presented in Power Lawn & Garden Equipment, a new study from The Freedonia Group, a Cleveland-based industry research firm.

The aging population will contribute to greater market share for higher-value products, as older homeowners who continue to handle their own lawn care will increasingly turn to more powerful or ergonomically designed products that minimize physical exertion.

In all age groups, consumer interest in outdoor living and lawn and garden activities will still encourage many homeowners to maintain their outdoor spaces themselves, and these DIY enthusiasts are likely to prefer high-quality, high-value equipment.

Suppliers to the residential market for power lawn and garden equipment should emphasize their products’ affordability and ease of use. In addition, residential users are often concerned with operating environmentally friendly equipment, so suppliers should either maintain a selection of electric equipment or emphasize the fuel efficiency and emissions reduction of their engine-driven equipment.
