Return to Reno: 2021 STIHL National Championship Air Races
The STIHL National Championship Air Races are returning to Reno, Nevada, September 15-19, 2021.
The annual event from the Reno Air Racing Association draws aviation enthusiasts from around the world with seven racing classes, a large display of static aircraft and several military and civilian flight demonstrations. This year will feature demonstrations by the U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds, U.S. Marine Corps MV-22 Osprey, F-35A Demonstration, Tucker’s Air Patrol, Jim Peitz Aerosports, Tony Higa Airshows, the National Aviation Heritage Invitation and more.
The MV-22 Osprey demonstration will feature one of the world’s most unique aircraft, according to the association: Part plane part helicopter, the Osprey has vertical takeoff and landing as well as short takeoff and landing capabilities. The demonstration will be given by the VMM-362 “Ugly Angels,” an operational active-duty squadron that has recently returned from deployment in the Middle East. The team, based out of MCAS Miramar in San Diego, will feature the capabilities of the MV-22 Osprey and showcase flight routines both in conversion and airplane modes.
Tickets for the event are now on sale. Active duty and veteran military members will receive free admission on Friday, September 17, for Military Appreciation Day. Discounted tickets are available through race week for all military members, seniors and children under 12 years of age. In addition, Reno residents who purchase tickets online during the month of August will receive 10 percent off reserved and general admission tickets, as well as box seats and pit passes (use code “LOCAL10” at checkout to apply the discount).
“Our community has been so incredible over the last year and we are honored to bring back Military Appreciation Day and introduce some new discounts for residents,” says Tony Logoteta, COO of the Reno Air Racing Association. “The last year-and-a-half has been tough on everyone. We are looking forward to getting our September Family together again and hope to introduce new fans to this thrilling one-of-a-kind event.”
